Friends! I recently returned from a Music Mastering Mentorship with recordist-masterer Fran Ashcroft in the UK. We became fast friends during the plague, formed the virtual band Les Chouettes and when I approached him years later about doing a unique 1-to-1 mastering mentorship (I've LONG been curious) he agreed! After a slight delay due to Pericarditis II (boo!) it HAPPENED in late July/early Aug. We finally met in real analog life and it proved to be a Builder's Tea-fuelled adventure! I plan on immersing myself in what I absorbed (practical, technical, philosophical…) when I have a place to land and sonic space to experiment.

While in Liverpool-Wirral outside the studio, cultural adventures ensued beyond the Beatles fare which were enticing (Strawberry Fields next time!). I visited libraries, galleries, caught the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland at The Liverpool Harmonic (mind blown by the 50+ piece orchestra complete with accordion virtuoso guest!), explored Port Sunlight Workers village and experienced the Royal Court Theatre (Scousers unite!). Sheer joy having the opportunity to explore a new technical craft - thanks to Canada Council for The Arts for their support - in such an inspiring place rich with history. If you are curious about my trip I'm hosting a 45 minute virtual event - stories from the road + Q&A. (Photos: Enjoying a visit to the Walker Gallery, First Day of The Mentorship in Fran's Studio, Last Day of Mentorship - Show & Tell! I'm holding the image I drew of him as The Owl from Les Chouettes while in residence at Caetani Centre in Vernon, B.C. landscape. If curious: Livestream Show), Liverpool Philharmonic
